Focus - The focus of my campaign is white collar crime
- White collar crime is a crime which goes unreported and unrecorded, and victims
often don't know that they are a victim of the crime due to the hidden nature of the
crime. As well as this, there is often a lack of knowledge surrounding white collar
crimes and those who commit white collar crimes often do not get prosecuted for
their crimes, leaving victims unaware that they are the victim of white collar crime.
- This campaign will help to bring awareness to victims of white collar crime and
ensure the general public are able to recognize white collar crimes and can
report the crime and are able to serve justice to those who are victims of white
collar crime
- This campaign was inspired by Harold Shipman, who was a doctor (a well
respected individual with high power) who manipulated his patients to change
their will and then killed them for financial gain. As well as this, there are victims of
white collar crimes involving taxes and money laundering, and many victims do
not know they are victims or are aware of the crime. The vast amount of people
who could fall victim to white collar crime highlights how the crime is a serious
threat to the general public, and so more awareness of the crime may reduce the
amount of people falling victim to the crime

Aims - Increase awareness of white collar crime and educate and inform the public about
the crime

Objectives - Produce leaflets which educate people on white collar crime in the local
community. Aim to give out 10,000 leaflets in total. In order to achieve this, ask
the local council to give out leaflets. This ensures it reaches the target audience
of the general public. Aim to distribute 500 leaflets per day.
- Produce social media adverts to highlight the hidden nature of white collar crime.
Aim to promote the advert to 50,000 people. Use social media analytics to target
people who are aged 30-60 years old. This ensures it reaches the target audience
via social media platforms which likely victims of white collar crime may use (e.g
Facebook). Deliver adverts to 5,000 people per day.
- Produce merchandise to help raise money for white collar crime awareness. Aim
to sell 100 hoodies, 100 tote bags and 100 wristbands. In order to achieve this,
research different manufacturers, and create a website to sell merchandise on.
This ensures that people can buy the merchandise online. Aim to sell over 50% of
products to ensure break even and profit is made

Justification - I have selected this particular under-reported/hidden crime because there is a
lack of awareness of white collar crime and the level of public awareness is low.
This is due to the fact that there is little media coverage of white collar crime, and
there is an underreporting of the crime, leading to victims being unaware of the
crime. Furthermore, those who have a high social status or are well-respected
individuals in society may not be suspected as being offenders of crimes, and so
are less likely to be prosecuted or accused of any crimes.
- Some statistics to support my justification for the campaign is that each year in
the UK fraud, which is only one of the plethora of white collar crimes, costs the UK
around £73m each year. This is an exponential amount of money in which the
general public may fall victim to due to the hidden nature of white collar crime. As
well as this, HMRC have reported a growth of 73% increase in emails which
related to tax fraud. This may lead to the general public falling vulnerable to these
fraud emails.
- A tragic case linked to this crime is the case of Harold Shipman - He was a doctor
(a figure of high respect and high power), who encouraged his patients to change
their wills to place his name in them. He then killed 15 of his patients and was
able to gain financially from being in their wills. Due to his social status and the

, respectability of his job, this allowed for his crime to take place unhidden from the
victims and their families.

Target - Following the evidence within my justification, I have chosen my target audience
audience to be men and women aged between 25 to 50. This is due to the fact that the
victims of white collar crime are most likely to be those who are investing their
money, who are paying taxes, who are consumers, and more. Victims do not
know that they are victims of white collar crime. This is due to the fact that white
collar crimes happen on a large basis, often not affecting one individual, more
likely a large population of people. This reinforces how my target audience plays a
huge role in the population, as they are the main people who may be affected by
white collar crime. By raising awareness to my target audience, they will be able
to identify white collar crime, and seek support if they have fallen victim to white
collar crime
- The first method is leaflets - these will be used to reach victims with more
condensed information. Even though not all people in my target audience may
pick up and read a leaflet, some people may still read the leaflet who may know
someone who is a victim of domestic abuse. Leaflets can have condensed
information on them, and so it will be easier for victims to find out about the
campaign and seek support through the leaflet if they were to pick one up. By
having an alternative to online methods, this increases the likelihood of a victim of
picking up a leaflet and reading it.
- The second method is social media. Millions of people in the UK use social
media, including my target audience. If my target audience is able to use social
media and have access to the internet, they may be able to use social media to
find out more about my campaign, and then gain the necessary support they
need. The use of social media means that victims do not need to talk to anyone in
real life, and can use online methods to contact people via email, direct
messaging, phone calls, etc, and this can ensure that if any victims are scared to
talk to anyone in person, they can speak to someone online.
- The third method is merchandise. The merchandise will be unisex, and will be
able to be purchased by anyone. The clothing will be available in different sizes to
accommodate everyone in different sizes. The sale of merchandise means that
victims have the choice to buy merchandise or not. It may be likely that victims do
not have the chance to buy merchandise, however it may be likely that people
who follow and support the campaign will buy the merchandise, leading to victims
being able to find out about the campaign through other people wearing and using
the merchandise

Methods Leaflets
and - The first method we will use to promote the campaign is leaflets. The purpose of
Materials the leaflets is to spread more condensed information onto one source which will
inform someone on domestic abuse - how to spot white collar crime, how to report
it, and to spread awareness of white collar crime. Some advantages of leaflets are
the fact that they can contain contact number, websites, imagery, condensed
information, statistics, and more. This is beneficial as it leads to people being able
to use the leaflet to its potential due to its condensed nature, and someone can
find all the information they need on the leaflet. Another advantage is that they
are relatively cheap to produce in bulk. This is beneficial as it can lead to more
leaflets being printed at a lower cost per unit. Another advantage of leaflets is that
someone can pick them up as a physical item, and do not need the internet to see
them. This is beneficial as it means that potential victims who may be unable to
gain access to the internet are able to use the leaflet to seek the right support.

Social Media
- The second method we will use to promote the campaign is social media
