In this assignment I'll be explaining how employees performance is measure and
managers, secondly I'll be explaining how the results from measuring and managing
performance inform employees development, moving on to the last point which I'll
be assessing the importance of measuring and managing employees performance
at work.

What is employee performance?

The job related activities expected of a worker and how well those activities were
executed. Many business personnel directors assess the employee performance of
each staff member on an annual or quarterly basis in order to help them identify
suggested areas for improvement.

What influences employee performance?

There are many influences which has an effect on the employee performance and
these are the working condition, motivation, wellbeing, stress and personal issue. If
the working condition of the workplace is good this will have a great effect on the
employee so they will know that the working condition is safe and protected and
this will enable them to work better with full attention and passion, whereas if the
working condition is not good this will have a great effect on their work ethic as this
will slow down the workers due to the unsafe working conditions. Another influence
is motivation and this has a great effect on the employee because if the manager or
a boss motivate their employees with incentives, feedback or any other good
factors this will allow them to work much more hard in order to increase the product
and quality rate, whereas if the motivation is not there in the employee this will
slow down the process of the business. Lastly personal issue is a great influence on
the employee performance because if an employee has experienced something
terrible at home, he/she may not achieve to work at the optimal level at the
workplace due to the issues at home.

Why is it important to measure the performance of employees?

The reason why it is important to measure the performance of employees because
the business will know how well they employees are doing in the business by
looking at each performance of the employee sales and the manager can give
constructive feedback on what to improve within their performance In the business.
Furthermore the performance of the employee can hint many factors behind the
employee, for example if the employee is performing bad this may be lack of
motivation, skills or incentives and this can be beneficial for the business as they
have room to help the employee to improve.

Explain how performance can be measured?

Businesses have different ways that they measure employee performance, e.g in
production its how many products are made, in a supermarket it's how many

, customers are served and products sold. In some industries it is more difficult to
measure productivity than others. Sometimes it is qualitative data that it is
important rather than quantitative data. The performance can be measured with
different factors. The ways which the business can measure the employee
performance is by measuring how many customers that the employee serve at a
specific time period, how many products they've sold, or how many reports were
made. If this measurement is done this allows the managers to review the
employees performance and they can compare the results with other employee. For
example in a restaurant the performance is measured by the number of meals
produced, number of customers served, how much each customer spends,
attendance, amount of waste produced and punctuality. In a sixth form college the
performance is measured by the amount of grades that their students achieve, they
can also be measured by the results from ofsted, punctuality and attendance.
Mobile phone shop measure their performance by the amount of phones are sold
and the amount of customers they help with their phones problem. Football clubs
measure their performance by reviewing the amount of tickets are sold per match,
the amount of matches they win, lose and draw. Lastly the supermarket measure
their performance by looking at how many products they sell a day, number of
customers served, the amount of customers served by employees and the sale.

Explain the different methods of managing performance organizations use with
examples from a range of organizations.

Probation - It's a period of time which a new employee is watched under close
supervision by their managers in order to see if they are suitable for their job. This
is great method to review the performance closely for the new employee to see if
they are doing good for the first 30 days. For example in McDonald's the probation
rule applies to all new employees who join the board, and they're monitored under
close supervision for 30 days by their managers to see if they're suitable for the job.
The managers also review their performance by how they serve the customers, how
many items they sell and this will enable the manager to see if they're the right
candidate for the job.

Appraisal - The appraisal system is there to motivate and encourage employees to
give their optimal performance during the working hours, there are sets of targets
and rules which is set by employer to the employee. One employee may have 8
targets which they need to achieve by the end of the week, whereas another
employee will have 3 complex targets so it differs within employees. Ultimately at
the review meeting, the targets will be measured against what has actually
happened and then a judgment will be made of how well the employee has done,
and lists of improvements will be listed. For example in McDonald's the appraisal
system is used very much across the whole business and this is a great way to track
down the employees and review them accurately. The employees receive a
performance review based on competencies defined as important for their role. The
