Book: Matilda
Writer: Roald Dahl
Passage from the book
Pages 121 to 138
I liked this piece of text the most. This part was not so boring. It was nice to read Matilda sat down
slowly again, she was angry. Her eyes were riveted on the glass with a frog in it. She kept her eyes
steadily on the glass, and now the power was concentrating. 'Tip it!' Matilda whispered. 'Tip it over!'
The glass was out of whack and fell over Miss Truchbull's enormous bosom.. There was a lot going on
in the piece. At two o'clock Miss Trunchbull, enters the director. She taught the class in the afternoon
to see how well they could do everything, but she is very strict with everyone. She pulled the hair of
a boy, because he had to say: 'two sevens are fourteen'. She cried at him until he was going to say it.
A little later she pulled someone's ears because he made a spelling mistake.
Then she cried to Matilda: 'stand up, you disgusting little cockroach!' 'You are not fit to be in this
school! You ought to be behind bars, that's where you ought to be! Matilda sat down slowly again,
she was angry.
Feelings/thoughts on the book
I liked the book because there were funny bits in it. Like the hat that was glued to Matilda's father's
head. The book was easy to read and there were nice pictures in it that made it easier for me to
understand the text. I used to watch Matilda's movie too. That was very similar to the book.
A lot happened in the book. That didn't make it boring and made you want to read on to find out
what happened next. Like the part in which a classmate of Matilda had to eat an entire chocolate
cake. I was curious if he would succeed or not.
I didn't like the ending of the story a bit. Not many things happened there and it was only about 1
thing. Matilda then went to Miss Honey's house and they talked about all sorts of things.
Description of a character
Matilda was a girl of 5 years old. Her parents didn't look after her, but they did look after her brother.
and she didn't go to school yet. So she went to the library every time. She went there every day to
read. There she learned to read herself. And she also had to do everything herself at home, such as
making food for herself, because her parents didn't have time for that.
After a while, her parents allowed her to go to school. She was very smart, she knew all the maths
and she could already read very well.
Her parents thought that was strange and thought she should watch television instead of reading.
Matilda therefore played pranks on her parents. She put glue in her father's hat so that the hat was
caught in his hair and put a parrot in the chimney to make it look like a burglar was in the house.
At school she learned that she had super powers with her eyes. She could move things or make
things fall over through her eyes. She told that to Miss Honey her teacher, because she was the only
one who understood Matilda. Miss Honey helped her with everything, said it was special that she
could and knew everything so well.
