Unit 9 – IT Project Management
Introduction
The purpose of this unit is to examine project management in the IT field in terms of its principles.
Furthermore, I will deliver a successful IT project by learning and applying at least three different
project methodologies and by understanding the five main stages of a project. In conclusion, I will be
taking this IT project a step further by researching a problem and then using my creative skills to
generate a broad range of solutions.
What are IT Projects?
It is the process of planning, organizing, and assigning responsibility for completing an organization's
specific information technology (IT) goals. In addition to overseeing software development projects,
hardware installations, network upgrades, cloud computing, business analytics and data
management projects, IT project managers implement IT services. An IT project can fail due to a
number of factors including conventional problems, technical advances during the execution of the
project, changes in the network infrastructure that affect security and data management and
unknown dependencies among hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
What is Project Scope?
This refers to the detailed outline of all types of projects, including associated activities, resources,
timelines, deliverables, and the project's boundaries, such as the budget. Furthermore, a project
scope identifies key stakeholders, processes, assumptions, and constraints, as well as what the
project is about, what is included, and what is not included.
