Questions on Bartunek et al. (2006)
1) According to the article by Bartunek, Rynes and Ireland (2006), what makes Management
Research interesting and why? Name three different aspects and explain them briefly.
- quality of the paper, valide generalizeerbaar
- How well it is written, storytelling aspact
- The newness of its theory and findings, aanspreken
- Importance of its practical implications
- Its impact on subsequent research
It must stand out in something, new theories Disconfirm something, but not all, otherwise absurd or
not contributing. Presenting something counterintuitive.
According to Bartunek et al (2006), high quality research, next to quality rigor and validity:
- Are interesting
- Produce a higher degree of learning
- Might lead to more graduate students
2) The authors also make reference to the Article by Murray Davis (1971) “That’s Interesting!”
What was the core argument of this article?
A story comes across as long as one finds it interesting, and not necessary whether it is true or false.
There must be some disconfirms, but not all.
3) Haimowitz suggests that some studies can be quite interesting to scholars, but not to other
people. Why is that?
Different interests
4) What do you personally find interesting in an article? Do you have a (vague) idea already, what
kind of research you would like to engage with/ make a contribution to in your own research
project (master thesis)?
Questions on Cornelissen et al. (2021)
1) According to the authors, why is a lack of discussion about theory and theorizingproblematic?
