General terms
- CCAP: consolidated court automation programs: Wisconsin CCAP is a system that allows the
general public to look up civil and criminal records throughout the state. Although other
states have programs similar to CCAP, this system only covers cases that occur within
Wisconsin
- SSI: Supplemental Security Income: monthly money for low-income people who are disabled
or have mental illnesses
- Building inspector: can be called by tenants if they think their house is in bad conditions.
Landlords hate them because they can shut down houses.
- Men tent to try to fix their debts by doing work for the landlord, and women are more likely
to call for support (family, church, ngo’s) and hide from the landlords
- North Side: black neighbourhood
- South Side: hispanic
- Inner City: poorest (black)
- Food stamps to get food provided by the government

Part one: Rent (p. 9-107)
Landlord 1: Sherrena Tarver and husband Quintin (Belinda Hall)
- Inner city renting to poor (black) inhabitants
- Sherrena tries to be nice, but nothing gets fixed in the houses and the tenants are always
blamed
- Used to be a teacher

- Lamar, Luke and Eddy
o Lamar lost a leg
o Was almost evicted because of arrear after he pained the apartment and Patrice’s in
exchange for being behind
- Arleen, Jori and Jafaris
o Was evicted because of snowball incident with the door
o Was later evicted because of money she lent for her sister’s funeral and couldn’t pay
back to Sherrena
o Went to court where she ‘lost’ the case to Shareen and must leave her house
(voluntarily if she wants nothing to happen) by January 1 st
o Actually has 5 kids (unnamed, unnamed, Boosie, Jafaris and Jori)
- The Hinkston's: Doreen, Patrice, Natascha, CJ and Ruby
o Patrice lives in the apartment above Doreen’s
o Evicted from their old place because of horrible condition of the house and suspects
of New year’s shootings. Doreen was very connected to neighbours, in the new hood
she doesn’t know anyone
o Natascha got pregnant, doesn’t want the kids but her boyfriend is very supportive,
something that her mom and sister can’t believe based on personal experiences.
, o Doreen wants to move after a probable eviction to Tennessee near her family, but
Natacha wants to stay in Milwaukee close to Mailik
Landlord 2: Tobin Charney, Lenny Lawson, Office Susie
College Mobile Home Park in the south
- Lots of white people
Renters under 2
- Larraine
o Got evicted because of not paying enough rent
- Pam, Ned and 2 daughters
o Lots of crack and drugs
o Their daughters were the only black ones on the camper place
o Tried to live with Scott and Terry after they were evicted
- Scott and Teddy
o Got evicted for helping Pam, Ned and the kids
o Very drug addicted and alcoholics
o Teddy starts living with his family in Tennessee
o House got totally stripped and everything was moved out to be sold
Part two: Out (p. 111-203)
- Larraine (2)
o Married to Jerry, then Glen. Had two daughters with Jerry (Megan and Jayme)
o Glen died in prison due to overdoses
o Very clean truck
o The Eagle Moving company emptied her truck and moved her stuff (John, Tim, Dave
and Jim) Stuff is brought to Eagle Storage Warehouse
- Brittany Baker (2)
o Always late and behind, never evicted
- Jerry Warren (2)
o Confronts Tobin with his situation, fixes f.e. some trucks and didn’t got evicted
o Neighbour Larraine
- Kamala and Devon (1)
o They don’t live together anymore
o New upstairs neighbour of Lamar. Had 3 daughters
o Apartment caught fire one night which killed her youngest daughter (8 months
o old)
- Ladona and son Nathaniel (1)
o Lives in the most worth-full house Shareen owns (black and white)
- Terri and boyfriend Antoine (1)

- Crystal Mayberry (1)
o Starts living in Arleen’s house after the eviction, but makes here and her boys stay
until they found a new place

o Almost wants to kick them out after an argument and being called bitch by Arleen’s
son.
