UNIT 12
p1, p2 (history of the internet)
slide 1 - This started around 50+ years ago
Back then computers filled up entire rooms.
If one computer went down it didn’t mean all of them would as well.
In 1962 a scientist named J.C.R Licklider proposed the idea of a network
of computers that could communicate with each other.
The first message ever sent from computer to computer was in 1969. At
the time the government used a network called the Arpanet (Advanced
Research Projects Agency Network).
In 1971 Ray Tomlinson developed the first system to send mail back and
forth between users of Arpanet.
In 1991 the world wide web was created. The internet was no longer
limited to the government but was easily accessible to anyone with a
internet connection.
The worlds first web browser was called Mosaic. This influenced a lot of
web browsers that are used today, such as google chrome.
slide 2 - The internet can affect the product and service of a business in
many ways for example online customer service is now possible. By
introducing this the business has a wider range of audiences which will
give the business brand awareness. The internet is also useful for
customers because it can give information to the existing customers or
the new customers about the product they may want to buy. This relates
back to Tesco because they can give information on what type of
product they own.
The internet can influence the price in the marketing mix strategy. One
example of this is would be dynamic pricing. This is a pricing strategy in
which businesses set flexible prices for products or service based on
current market demands. For Tesco they may do some sales on foods if
it is close to Christmas.
The internet has changed how customers can access businesses. The
place of a business is usually a shop with products, but since the internet
has come into play business can now have online shows easily accessible
by anyway who has access to Wi-Fi. Some organizations such as Amazon,
is an online only shop.
, Physical evidence is the actual service you see in the business shop. By
introducing the internet business have sort of demolished physical
evidence. For example in Amazon if you want to try a product you must
buy it at first but if you were in a shop you can try it before you buy it.
slide 3 - The promotion component of the marketing mix refers to the
marketing communication strategy used by the organization for product
and company advertisement. Social media can affect a businesses sales
through a variety of ways such as YouTube, Instagram, snapchat and
much more. It depends on what type of customers the audience is trying
to target for example if it is a clothing company they can use celebrity
endorsement to promote their product. This can relate back to Tesco
because they can use YouTube adverts to represent their products.
The people component of marketing mix is referring to the relationship
between the customer and the business. The internet has made it easier
for businesses to communicate with customers through ways such as e-
mail. In case the order didn’t go through to the customer Tesco can
email the customer to inform them about their inconvenience.
The process in a business could be your entire sales funnel, a pay
system, distribution system and other systematic procedures and steps
to ensure a working business that is running effectively. The internet
influences this because it has introduced methods such as tracking. This
mainly helps out the customers because it reassures them of where
there product currently is.
slide 4 - ‘relationship marketing’ Relationship marketing is when a
company is trying to create a long time relation with its customers other
then just making a one time sale to them. For example with Amazon
they introduced Amazon prime. This benefits the customers because
they get extra services such as next day delivery. Another way
businesses use the internet to their advantage to keep a better
relationship with their customers is to always message them. If there are
sales going on within the business, some customers may be interested.
slide 5 - ‘How businesses use the internet to help them with
segmentation
’ Starting of with geographic, businesses have used the internet to help
them with finding out the location of a customer. When customers want
order from Tesco they will need to give the business information
informing them where they live.
