Name the types of false argument, explain them, and give an example of each.
Name Calling – Attacking the person not the opinion, ex. Sipho says the DA
are the best to vote for – that’s typical of DA voters, they are all greedy
capitalists.
False cause and effect – falsely claiming that an action has, or will have a
certain effect. ex. If the government bans guns, then we’ll have a lot less
violence in SA.
Straw man argument - Falsely representing an opinion in order to discredit
it. Ex. People who say there’s no God think it’s okay to ignore moral rules.
Appeals to emotion (usually fear). Ex. The people of SA have a choice;
either vote for our political party or the crime will get worse.
