Introduction
This document contains information about assignment 2. The assignment consists of four compulsory

You are strongly advised to attend the online discussion sessions to share and gain further insights
into the questions. Options
You could answer each of the questions in one of two ways (as was the case with assignment 1).
Option 1: Academic essay
You write an academic essay in accordance with the assessment criteria and guidelines as
communicated.
It is compulsory to use the prescribed sources in Unit 3. You are encouraged to identify and use other
academic sources as well.
Option 2: Evaluating Artificial Intelligence
(We may want to refine this option on the basis of the responses in Assignment 1. Ensure that you
use the latest version of this document).
This option allows the opportunity to work with and evaluate the role of Artificial Intelligence in the
writing of an academic essay. You could use one or more AI programmes such as (ChatGPT).
It is a prerequisite that you familiarise yourself with the debates and guidelines about the ways AI
could be used in academic writing. You could use this document as a starting point.

, 1) Use ChatGPT (and or any other AI programme) to generate an academic essay in response to
the assignment question.
2) Explain in detail the process that you followed:
a) Explain how you interpreted the question.
b) Explain how you have generated a text through you prompting.
3) Write a detailed evaluation of the text you have generated with AI. Your evaluation must include
the following:
a) Has AI adequately addressed all your prompts? Explain.
b) Did AI generate an essay that meets all the assessment criteria stipulated in the module? Take
note that all the assessment criteria are applicable. This includes the following:
· The use of the prescribed sources;
· The contextualisation of the question, including examples;
· Responding to all aspects of the question; ·
Presenting theories and ideas in a sound way;
· Meeting the technical requirements.
c) Include as an appendix the final text AI has generated. Do this in the form of screenshots or
scanned documents. These texts are not being assessed, but rather used in the assessment of
your responses. Screenshots and scanned documents are to be used to reduce the possibility
that Turnitin would read it.

1) Were you able to provide a complete and sound interpretation of the question? This will
appear in your response described in 2) above.
2) Could you critically evaluate the AI response in relation to the assessment criteria? See 3)
above.
3) A critical understanding of AI in academic writing.
