Brave new world written by Aldous Huxley
1 What is the connection between the title and the book? Explain in detail with examples from the
book. How does the title relate to the main character/s?
- The brave new world is the world where the book takes place. The world is explained in the book
en the story takes place there. The title is therefore also relates to the characters because they live
in brave new world.

2 Characterization: What kind of person is/are the main character/s? In what ways does that
become clear to you as a reader? Explain with examples from the book.
- There isn't really 1 main character, there are a few more important people. One of them is John,
the son of the director and Linda. He is the only major character who who grow up in the other
world, therefore he finds it really difficult to fit in the new world. An other main character is Lenina,
she is an object for desire for most men in the new world. And lastly Bernard Marx, he is an alpha
man who doesn't fit into his caste because he doesn't look like the other people in his caste.

3 Who is your favourite character in the book and why? Explain with details of what he/she is
saying / doing in the book.
- My favourite character is John because he is the most normal character in the book. He is the only
one who grew up in the other world and I like the way he thinks and does things more than with
other people from the book. For example he doesn't want people to take the soma because he
knows it's bad stuff, but all the other people don’t see that.

4 Development: In what ways does the main character change or develop during the story? How do
you notice that as a reader? Give detailed examples from the book.
- The main character changes a bit during the story because he goes to the new world and discovers
who his dad is, which is a really rare and pornographic thing to say in the new world. You notice that
as a reader because you can tell that he finds it difficult to adapt to the rules and society of the new
world.

5 Conflict: What is the most important emotional conflict that the main character becomes involved
in? How does the writer end the conflict? Explain.
- For John the most important conflict is that he goes to the new world and learns who his father is.
It is very difficult for him because it's a whole different world then he is used to. The conflict ends
with John who goes back to the lighthouse and later hanging himself after an incident with Lenina.
Helmholtz and Bernard who are both going to different islands, because of wrong things they did.

6 Ending: Is there an open or closed ending to the book? How did that make you feel as a reader?
- There is a closed ending because you know where most of the characters go to or people have
died. It was the right ending for us as readers because you know how the story ends.

7 Setting: In what ways are time and place made important in the book? In what way is that
important to the story? Any unexpected setting details? (e.g. A war story in an unexpected setting?)
- The place is really important because it takes place in a whole different world. It was very difficult
to read the book because of how different the new world was, all the things you know from the
normal world are different in the world where the story takes place. Time is not very important
because it all takes place in not a really long time. The only strange thing is that the new world has a
different system with years. In the book it was the year 632 a.f..

8 Theme: What do you think the writer wants to express with the story? What does he/she want to
explain? What is his / her message? Give details to support your answer.
