A good girls guide to murder. Written by Holly jackson. 433 pages
1 What is the connection between the title and the book? Explain in detail with examples from the
book. How does the title relate to the main character/s?
- The connection between the title and the book is that the girl in the book wants to solve a murder
because she doesn't believe that the boy who is now being found guilty is really guilty. So the girl
keeps a whole guide about all the details for her school project and that's how she discovers the real
killer.

2 Characterization: What kind of person is/are the main character/s? In what ways does that
become clear to you as a reader? Explain with examples from the book.
- The main character is a 17 year old girl who was very much in her head with the murder case from
5.5 years ago and when she had to do a major investigation for school, this was her perfect
opportunity to investigate the murder herself. She was constantly working on it and put her own
safety aside to find the killer. She even went into the house of a man she believed kidnapped Andie
all by herself, while being held back by her partner.

3 Who is your favourite character in the book and why? Explain with details of what he/she is
saying/doing in the book.
- My favourite character is Pippa, she is the main character and I really like her character because
she's so smart and driven and cares so much about other people that she's self-effacing and
therefore gets several people who have committed crimes arrested. I also think it is very clever of
her that she has managed to solve a murder, while the police have not even succeeded with strong
facts. She did have help from her partner, but she did most of it herself.

4 Development: In what ways does the main character change or develop during the story? How do
you notice that as a reader? Give detailed examples from the book.
- The main character doesn't really change, I think that's because it happened in a very short time. I
rather think that it will continue to have a major impact on her after time because she has
experienced so much intense in a short time. Or for example the moment she was drugged, because
of this moment it seems to me that she will be much more careful with what she gets to eat or drink
from other people.

5 Conflict: What is the most important emotional conflict that the main character becomes involved
in? How does the writer end the conflict? Explain.
- The biggest conflict the main character gets into is really just the whole book itself, as she is
threatened for trying to find out the truth, her dog was killed and she herself was drugged and
nearly killed. So actually I can't really call it a conflict clearly because everything was very intense.
Also the moments when she confronted the killers were really unnerving because anything could go
wrong at any moment.

6 Ending: Is there an open or closed ending to the book? How did that make you feel as a reader?
- A closed ending, at the end of the book the killers and kidnapper were finally revealed and that's
what the whole book was already working towards so when that was finally actually told it was very
exciting and surprising to finally know that. It also had to be a closed end, because the work was
done in such a way that it was really impossible that it was not told in the end.

7 Setting: In what ways are time and place made important in the book? In what way is that
important to the story? Any unexpected setting details? (e.g. A war story in an unexpected setting?
- Time and place have been made important in the book because it takes place in the same place
where the murders were committed and because of that all the people who might know about it are
