Individual report regarding coffee shop research
plan.
This is my research plan on how I will find data, as well as when and where.
Primary research
Focus group
The focus group will take place during lunchtime on Friday 11 th November. The focus group will take
place in a room that will be booked as it will be a quiet space for discussion. The target market for our
focus group will be 16+ because they would already be familiar with coffee shops. The data will be
collected with notes being taken throughout the focus group session. Questions will also be prepared in
advance to make it easy. We will have 8 people in our group and it will be randomly selected friends to
make sure the results aren't biased and so we can get the best answers. The activity will take place at
college.
Survey
The survey will take place after college in our free time. The survey can take place anywhere because the
sheets can be given to anyone. My team have agreed to give it to family members to prevent the
feedback from being too similar to the focus group as they will be suitable people to represent the area.
The survey will be targeted towards anyone 16+ because they will be more likely to use and E café. The
data will be collected easily as the recipient will be able to answer their questions on the sheet and my
team just have to interpret it. The sampling will be small because chelsea is a small area. The survey will
take place outside of college.
Observation
The observation will take place outside an existing coffee shop, in our free time as my team share a
lengthy free period together. We will do the observation three times. to get results from different times
of the day. The target market is people coming in and out of the coffee shop. I will prepare a record sheet
so we can take notes to interpret later. We will be outside a busy coffee shop so will have a small and
randomized sampling size, possible 50 people. The activity will take place in a high street.
Secondary research
The secondary research can be done after the primary research because we are finding and interpreting
already existing data. Over the course of a few lessons we can bookmark websites that look helpful and
research more from books and leaflets.
