There are many strategies and methods which could be used to support child
where they have been suspected or confirmed of experiencing abuse or
maltreatment.
It is important to be respectful when dealing with situations like this. It is
important because respect must be earned, if you are respectful to other
people and their opinions then they are more likely to take into account your
issue and help you resolve it but also it could increase the chances of the
child/young adult being open to you and talk about what they are going
through. The children might be able to explain their behaviour if they respect
you or trust you.
I think that this is effective because a child is most likely to trust someone with
their issue if they respect them, this could mean that they feel safe with them.
For example, if the teacher/carer is always helping them and looking after
them they are more likely to talk to them about their problems in hope that
they might help since they always have helped the child. Linking this with the
policies and the procedures I have looked at in the previous assignments I
could connect the ‘Every child matters 2003’ act because it stresses out the
importance of the child being safe and the importance of keeping the child
away from harm. It also stresses out the importance of the child having equal
opportunities as other children but also they must be treated equally. This
suggests that the carer/teacher working with child who has suspected the
maltreatment or abuse must value and view all children the same by ensuring
that all children are safe. This involves the isolation of maltreatment or
abuse. It is vital for the members who are working with children to work in this
manner because children are vulnerable and it against the law to harm
anyone at all linking the ‘Human rights act 1998’ which concludes that no
human can be harmed.
Another strategy which could be used when dealing with the suspected or
confirmed maltreatment or abuse is by contacting the child centre, this would
provide the child/young adult with the support which they could use in order
to take control over their lives and they are not going to be vulnerable to the
harm of their parents or those who are looking after them. Other things like
encouragement given to develop strategies to help them avoid situations like
