TU/E BACHELOR GUIDE

,Before you start reading this, I would like you to understand something. This is by no means a do this
or fail kind of document, in fact I recommend to go outside of the scope of this document to find
some information you need.

I got this information through personal experience as a fellow student at TU/e and decided to make
this in order to help others, because I know how much I struggled in the beginning with all of the
mentioned things.

Now regarding the contents of the document. The stuff that is crucially important is in red and
cannot be missed. If you have any questions regarding the university, you can email the general
information desk at io@tue.nl. If you have any more questions outside of that, you can email my
personal email at minezhenya@gmail.com.

Registration at town hall:
Upon arrival in Netherlands you will need to register at the town hall. As the name implies it’s a
building available in every city where you will need to book a date and be present at that date to be
registered. Simple. However when 1000+ students want to register, many complications arise. In my
year, the university reserved a spot for all first year applicants, but that might change, so don’t count
on it. I for example, stayed in a different city nearby in the first year, hence I had to register at that
citys town hall, and obviously there was no line (this place doesn’t have many people living in it).

So lets say the university cannot help you and you have to book it yourself, heres what to do.

Pick a date which should be after you have landed and arrived. You are given 5 days after arrival to
register, after which you can be fined for 325 euro. In my year, due to sheer amount of students, this
period was extended to 3 months, so don’t stress and double check if you have that luxury.
All in all, register early.

What to bring with you to the town hall (EU):

• EEA card/passport
• Birth certificate (sometimes not necessary and can be provided later, still bring)
• Letter/email/any proof of enrollment (I wasn’t asked for one, but you can be)
• Tenancy agreement (super necessary, must have)

What to bring with you to the town hall (non-EU):

• Passport
• Birth certificate (sometimes not necessary and can be provided later, still bring)
• Letter/email/any proof of enrollment (I wasn’t asked for one, but you can be)
• Tenancy agreement (super necessary, must have)
• Residence permit

In return, for registering, you will be given a BSN number. This is like an identity number that can and
will be used by governments and other agencies to determine who you are, hence you will be asked
to provide in many situations.

After going to the town hall, your documents will be up for approval and when approved, which they
should be, you will be sent a letter with all the information, including your BSN. For me this took 1
day, as again, not many people needed to register in my city, but it can take up to a week from my
knowledge if it is crowded.
