, INTRODUCTION
The following assignment will provide definitions, explanations, discussions and
elaborations under the following themes, Paradigmatic Positions and Paradigmatic
Assumptions. The six paradigmatic positions will be explained in detail, that is,
Decolonial/indigenous/postcolonial paradigmatic positions, Transformative/critical
paradigmatic positions, The positivist paradigmatic position, The interpretivist
paradigmatic position, The critical realist paradigmatic position, and the pragmatic
paradigmatic position. In the second question, epistemological assumptions associated
with an Afrocentric decolonial/ indigenous/postcolonial paradigmatic position will be
discussed. How epistemology of positivism is different from the epistemology of
interpretivism will be answered and elaborated. Also, epistemological orientations of
both positivism and interpretivism from a decolonial/indigenous/postcolonial position will
be critiqued. Additionally, the ontologies of positivism, interpretivism and critical realism
will be compared. An explanation of how relationality is accounted for in the ontological,
axiological, epistemological and methodological assumptions of
decolonial/indigenous/postcolonial positions will be provided. The relationship between
epistemology and methodology in research will be discussed, and lastly, a summary of
the methodologies associated with each of the paradigmatic positions listed in question
1 will be summarised.
