Professional Standing and Responsibility (7) -
\this is Standard I:
1. Services provided reflect the philosophical base of OT and are consistent with the
established principles and concepts of theory and practice
2. Practitioner understands and follow AOTA and federal, state, and other pertinent
regulatory and payer guidelines
3. Practitioner keeps up to date with licensure, registration, and certification
requirements and follows the Code of Ethics and Ethics Standards and the Standards
for Continuing Competence
4. Practitioner is responsible for the delivery of safe and effective OT services
5. Practitioner maintains updated knowledge of topics that affect clients or OT practice
6. Practitioner stays knowledgeable and applies knowledge about evidence-based
research
7. Practitioner respects all clients
Screening, Evaluation, and Reevaluation (8) -
\this is Standard II:
, 1. An OT is responsible for all aspects of the screening, evaluation, and reevaluation
process
2. OT accepts and responds to referrals in compliance with state or federal laws, other
regulatory and payer requirements, and AOTA documents
3. OT works with client to complete the evaluation process
4. COTA contributes to the screening, evaluation, and reevaluation process by
implementing delegated assessments and reporting pertinent observations to the OT,
while following federal, state, payer, or other regulations and information in AOTA
documents
5. OT practitioners follow pertinent protocols using current and relevant assessment
tools
6. COTA contributes to the documentation of evaluation results and OT completes,
analyzes, interprets, and documents the OT evaluation results within required time
frames
7. OT practitioner abides by confidentiality and privacy regulations while communicating
results of evaluation and reevaluation
8. OT recommends additional consultations to refer clients to appropriate resources as
needed
Intervention (Standard; 5) -

1. OT has the main responsibility for developing, documenting, and implementing the
OT intervention following appropriate timelines, formats, regulations, requirements, and
standards
2. OT and COTA work collaboratively with client to develop and implement the
intervention plan using professional judgment and clinical reasoning to identify
interventions appropriate for each client
3. COTA selects, implements, and makes modifications to therapeutic interventions that
are consistent with demonstrated competency and delegated responsibilities, the
intervention plan, and requirements of the practice setting
4. OT modifies the intervention plan throughout the intervention process and documents
changes in the client's needs, goals, and performance and the COTA can contribute to
modifying the plan
5. OT and COTA follow appropriate regulations and requirements for documenting the
provision of OT services
Outcomes (Standards; 5) -

1. OT has the primary responsibility for selecting, measuring, documenting, and
interpreting expected or achieved outcomes that are related to the client's ability to
engage in occupations
2. OT has primary responsibility for documenting clients' performance changes,
transitioning clients to other services, changing the intensity of OT services, and
discontinuing services
3. OT prepares and implements a transition or discontinuation plan and the COTA
contributes to the plan
