Thereafter skim through the Preamble, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 of the Constitution of South
Africa and discuss the connection between the two documents.

To discuss the connection between the Freedom Charter and the Constitution of South Africa, I will
first provide a summary of the key clauses of the Freedom Charter and then compare these with the
Preamble, Chapter 1, and Chapter 2 of the South African Constitution.

Freedom Charter: Key Clauses
The Freedom Charter, adopted in 1955, outlines fundamental principles for a free and democratic
South Africa. The key clauses include:

1. The People Shall Govern!
 Every man and woman shall have the right to vote.
 All bodies of minority rule shall be replaced by democratic organs of self-government.

2. All National Groups Shall Have Equal Rights!
 Equal status in the bodies of state, courts, and schools for all national groups.
 Protection against land ownership discrimination.

3. The People Shall Share in the Country’s Wealth!
 National wealth and industry ownership shall be transferred to the people.
 Redistribution of land to all those who work it.

4. The Land Shall be Shared Among Those Who Work It!
 Land reallocation without compensation to those who seize it for selfish purposes.

5. All Shall be Equal Before the Law!
 Equal legal rights and protection under the law.
 Abolishment of discriminatory laws and practices.

6. All Shall Enjoy Equal Human Rights!
 Freedoms of speech, press, and association.
 Right to work and fair wages.

7. There Shall be Work and Security!
 Right to work and protection against unemployment.
 Fair and equal wages, working conditions, and social security.
