1. Locate clavicle and roll off, sliding down deep into the tissues
2. Have patient take a deep breath in to feel this structure move, or bring arm up and forward to

1. Locate the mastoid process of the temporal bone, the medial clavicle and the top of the
sternum and draw a line between these landmarks to delineate the location of this structure. Not
how both of these structures form a "V" on the front of the neck
2. Ask you partner to raise their head very slightly off the table as you palpate this structure. It
will usually protrude visibly. To make this structure more distinct, rotate head slightly to the
opposite side and then ask them to flex their neck.
3. Palpate along the borders, following this structure behind the earlobe and then down to the
clavicle and sternum. Sculpt around the skinny sternal tendon and the wider clavicular tendon -

accessed, you may not be able to isolate the tendon of this structure
4. While on this structure, ask partner to alternately clench and relax their jaw to feel this
structure contract - ANS-Temporalis

1. Place your fingers on the side of the neck below the earlobes
2. Using your flat thumb pads, slide anteriorly and posteriorly to feel the ridge of these
structures. Explore them through the length of the neck
3. If you passively flex, laterally flex or rotate the neck, you can feel these structures move
individually
