P1: Apple
Describe the type of business purpose and ownership of two contrasting businesses?

Apple

The first organisation I have chosen is a profit company called Apple. Apple is a global organization
headquarted in California. It was found by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak & Ronald Wayne in the year
1976. The current CEO of the company is Tim Cook. Apple has about 498 retail stores spread around
the world, and it has also the online Apple and ITunes store. It is the 2 nd biggest tech company that
develops and sells many different electronic products, like: IPhone, Ipad, MacBook, IPod, IMAC, and
Apple Watch. Apple also has a computer software and online store where you can get information
about the products and buy them.

Apple is a private sector business. The company is set to make profit and not owned by the
government, it has its own owners. The owners of Apple are shareholders. Apple is a public limited
company. The owners buy their shares and sell them at the stock exchange. Apples public offering
was in 1980. Apple has 5.257.816.000 shares most of them are held by institutional investors and
funds.

Apple operates in the secondary sector as well as the tertiary sector. Apple belongs in the secondary
because it creates and designs its own products and services. They produce their own Mac line: the
IPhone smartphone, the iPod, Ipad, Mac laptops, computers and its OS X operating system. Apple is
also in the tertiary sector because, because it sells its own products and services in Apple retail
stores, at resellers like Media Markt, Vodafone or KPN. Apple sells also products at its online stores:
the Apple Store and the ITunes Store.

Apple`s main purpose is to increase their profit. They make advertisement of their products on
internet, social media, at their website and also at reseller’s websites. Beside the fact that they make
advertising on internet, they also advertise their products by commercials on the TV or the radio.
Apple invents products that will be useful and that will appeal to customers all over the world, they
want to grow their company and increase its proportion of the market share of the electronics
industry. Apple has been able to do this by designing the hard and software in their products.

UNICEF

The second organization I have chosen for is UNICEF headquarted in New York. UNICEF is a global
non-profit organization it has 158 country offices around the world. The United Nations International
Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) was created by the United Nations General Assembly on 11 th
December 1946, to provide emergency food and health to childeren in country`s that had been
wasted by the World War II. In 1953 it became a permanent part of the United Nations System, and
the words “international” and “emergency” were dropped from the organization`s name, making it
simply the United Nations Children’s Fund, retaining the original word form, “UNICEF”. UNICEF is still
a part and owned by the United Nations. Since 1 May 2010 Anthony Lake is the manager of UNICEF
International. Lake was before being UNICEF`s manager counselor of the ex-American president
Barack Obama.

UNICEF is a company in the voluntary sector. UNICEF relies on contributions from governments and
private donors, UNICEF`s total income in 2015 was $5.009.557.471. Governments contribute 2/3 of
the organizations recourse. Private groups and individuals contribute the rest trough national
committees. It is near the 92 cent of UNICEF income is distributed to programme services. UNICEF`s
programmes show that developing community-level services to promote the health and well-being of
childeren. On 7 September 2006, an agreement between UNICEF and the Spanish/Catalan soccer
