preparation. Military planning, regardless of the branch of service, is
essentially a structured, formalized version of what you do every day—in and
out of uniform—to solve problems and achieve goals. Neither everyday
problem-solving nor military planning processes are ridged, lock-step
procedures that must be applied the same way every time. Each process needs
to be applied flexibly; this flexibility can be achieved by using critical thinking
and judgment to analyze, evaluate, and choose among possible solutions.

fighting a single battle.
