The aboriginals
Aboriginals are the original citizens of Australia. The name aboriginal is deduced form the
Latin term “ab origine” what “from the beginning” means. There are approximately
145.000 aboriginal people in Australia, so that’s about 1% of Australia's total population. The
Aboriginals likely came at least 50.000 years ago to Australia before they lived somewhere in
Asia. We think that because in 400.000 before Chr. they probably walked from Asia to
Australia when it was low tide because it was less than 50 kilometers located apart from
each other. The Aboriginals had there a good life so the tribes came one for one to the other
side and they liked it there so much that they even stayed in Australia. They traveled to the
south and hunted the North all flat. So that probably originated a portion of the desert and
of course the fires have contributed to it too.
Way of living
The Aboriginals live in small family groups and are nomadic. The men are hunters and make
tools. The women gather fruits, seeds, prepare food and raise the children. Dia veranderen
The aboriginals didn’t cultivate crops and didn’t breed animals; they lived on what the land
gave them. The aboriginal culture is one of the few cultures which isn’t affected by the
western culture. The very strong band they have with nature and living in harmony is an
important aspect of their culture. There are 300 to 500 different tribes, each with their own
territory and cultural heritage. Despite all those differences they have one thing in common,
their dream time, this is the period before the existence at earth but at the same time the
after-world where the unborn live and where the deaths return. Places in the landscape, like
Ayers Rock are seen as incarnations from their fore fathers from the dream time. Dia
The aboriginals believe that somebody’s soul didn’t die at the same time as the body, and
that ceremonies are necessary to be sure that somebody’s soul leaves the body and
incarnates somewhere else. One of the strange habits of the aboriginals is the walk about, at
random times men leave their tribes to disappear for weeks, months or even years, to follow
the way that their fore fathers once followed, often with as only target to meet a stranger.
