AUDITING & ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEMS
ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEMS (AIS) I.C.W. AUDIT
INHOUD
- Accounting system
- Revenue system
- Expenditure system
ACCOUNTING SYSTEM
Auditor: checks financial statements before it goes public.
- Important because investors use financial statements to make decisions
- Auditor cannot guarantee everything is correct, they give assurance to consumers/investors
that the numbers are reliable
- They do not check every single number but the total post at balance sheet
- Auditor ≠ Accountant
o Auditor is één ding: degene die de jaarrekeningen controleert en ingehuurd wordt
door een bedrijf
o Accountant kan van alles zijn: management accountant, bookkeeper (boekhouder)
ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEMS (AIS)
Accounting: the process of identifying, measuring and communicating economic information to
permit informed judgements and decisions by users of the information.
Accounting is an information-providing activity, so accountants need to understand:
o How the system that provides that information is designed, implemented and used.
o How financial information is reported.
o How information is used to make decisions.
Accounting information system: tool for auditor to get the info etc, the environment within
accounting exists. An auditor checks the numbers by checking the systems from where the numbers
come from. When the system is correct, it is quite likely the numbers that come from the system are
also correct.

- There is a system when:
o Two or more components (students and professor)
o Interrelationship (there is communication)
o Common goal (goal is to learn something)
Information system (IS): a set of interrelated subsystems to collect, store and manage data and to
