QUESTION 1

The major goal of this essay is to go through in detail how far I've progressed in my quest for
freedom in South Africa. This would be accomplished by first providing context on how my
forefathers endured with no freedom during the apartheid era. Second, I'd like to explore how far
I've gained freedom in my country by sharing my personal experiences and examining the quote on
freedom supplied by Meryl Streep.

South Africa has suffered greatly at the hands of oppressors in recent decades and has been
subjected to a tremendous degree of brutality. They were never given the opportunity to vote, the
right to a proper education, they were subjected to racial segregation, and the right to a fair and
impartial justice system was taken away from them. They were ejected from their houses and
relocated to locales with harsh living circumstances. Thanks to the heroes who fought valiantly so
that I might live a life free of persecution and pursue my ambitions in any job path of my choosing.

For as long as I can remember, my existence in the Republic of South Africa has been marked by
freedom, as I am now able to receive the same education as anyone else in the country, and I am
now able to vote for a leader who I believe is capable of leading the country to greatness and
assisting it in areas where it needs improvement. I am glad to report that I am now able to stay in
any region without being restricted based on race, and I finally have access to a fair and impartial
court system. Despite having more freedom, there are still areas that need to be improved.
Inequality persists in areas such as school segregation and the job system, which run counter to the
freedom our heroes fought for. Education institutions continue to be biased, particularly in
universities, where students are admitted primarily on their skin colour rather than their scores.

To summarize, the purpose of this essay was to analyse in depth the extent to which I have achieved
independence in my own nation, the Republic of South Africa. My was accomplished by first
providing a history of how the elders of this country suffered throughout the apartheid era and how
they were denied any freedom; then, based on my personal experiences in my country, I highlighted
the extent to which I have obtained freedom.
