PEN2604 Most Common Exam Questions
Define sexual harassment?
• The Commission has found that sexual harassment in a constitutional context is to be
considered
o a violation of the fundamental human rights of men and particularly women
o a violation of the right to equality, human dignity, security of a person and fair
labour practices
Define access control.
• Access control is the activity of controlling entry into correctional facilities to maintain
the security and safety of offenders, staff, service providers and visitors.
• It includes activities such as key control and the maintenance of logbooks and
registers, whether they are in manual form or electronic (Queensland Government
2008).
Access control is not only applicable to the physical centre or buildings, but to the whole of the
premises as such.
, Define conflict.
There are almost as many definitions of conflict as there are writers on the topic.
• Gouws, Louw, Meyer and Plug (1979:156), for example, define conflict in a psychological
framework as the simultaneous presence of opposite behavioural trends or tendencies.
• Robbins (1988:446) and Kroon (1995:395) use a management framework to refer to
conflict as observed (according to Kroon also "experienced") irreconcilable differences
which lead to one or other form of interference or opposition. However, the
indiscriminate application of the term "irreconcilable" puts solutions to conflict beyond
reach, and that is not realistic.
• Basically, conflict is an interaction between two or more parties who oppose each
other's:
o Interests
o Values
o Actions
o Opinions
o understanding (Hopson & Scally 1980)
Conflict is essentially a matter of two or more parties wanting different things from the same
situation (Bannerman 2009:1).
Define occupational hygiene.
• The OHS Act includes the preventive concept of occupational hygiene, defining it as:
o ".the anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of conditions arising in
or from the workplace, which may cause illness or adverse effects to persons"
