1. MENTORING:
As illustrated in the graphic illustrations above we
teach children with different cultures, backgrounds
and beliefs and I believe that mentoring includes the
way a teacher encourages and interact with students to
strive to be the best they can, and to enjoy learning. As
in graphic number 2 and 3 part of mentoring consist of
listening to learners by taking time to listen to what
they say, teachers impart to learners a sense of
ownership in the classroom. This helps build their
confidence and helps them to want to be successful.

2. TEACHER AS SUBSTITUTE PARENT:
In picture number 1 you can see the
smiles and excitement on the learners’
faces they can so easily be positively
influenced by a teacher’s character,
affection and commitment. If you
had to identify two of the most
important responsibilities of a teacher
my guess is that – apart from the need
to offer children support and
encouragement implicit in being loved
and accepted – you would probably come up with something like “discipline” and
“moral instructions”. In other words the things we have traditionally expected of
parents in the raising of their children are now being identified as the things they
most want from their children’s teachers.
3. COMMUNICATION:
Seek out relationships with others involved in the lives of your pupils, including
parents, coaches, other educators, administrators and other extracurricular
directors. As you can see in graphic number 2 it is important for you as the teacher
to share relevant information with pupils to better serve their needs.
Send progress reports home to inform parents of any potential issues with their
child’s grades. Schedule meetings with parents to see if you can offer academic
support in any way. Build a trustworthy relationship with the learner so that he /
she can feel comfortable to discuss any personal issues with you at any time.
4. PROTECT:
Establish a safe environment for learners in your class by identifying bullying and
preventing it from continuing. Acknowledge disabilities, barriers, illnesses and
allergies that may affect individuals in your class. Practice safety in the classroom
such as: first aid, emergency strategies and the proper handling of possible
incidents that can occur.
