Briefly discuss the following
1.1 Communality
Community and the notion belongs to the members of the community and simbolize African
traditional life.This stands against Western beliefs of the individual as a certain entity that are able
to exist and flourish on their own-not connected to any community of other individuals,not
committed to biological relationships or socio economic,political and cultural
relationships,obligations,duties,responsibilities than determines a community of individuals.A sense
of common goals and values,a decision to to further the common good,cooperation was more than
just community members just working together.This led to it being a set of rules of
conduct ,morals,an understanding right and wrong in a complicated society.Without working
together with in bands,among bands,through tribal groups-our technical skills would drastically and
severely been affected,Social rules and standards emerged.The value of communality is of great
importance to education.hence it is rooted in a welfare concern.where the basis of communality
gives priority gives preference priority to the community and shoes respect for human beings.It also
invoves sharing with others and empowering in a spirit of cooperation.
1.2 A Fact
A factual statement would be in the lines of’It is hot outside.This statement can be proved right or
wrong.Factual statements are different from value statements,in a way that value statements cannot
be proven right or wrong.Values are important to each individual,However values does not fit into
thinking paradigm of empericism,because no scientific explanation for values.Objective truth is
important in this frame of reference and subjective truth is seen as less important.
1.3 Pragmatism
, Pragmatism learns us that the truth of a statement is found in its consequences.This means
Pragmatism encourages us to explore.Pragmatism then promotes education as a form of
exploration.Pragmatism says that ‘truth’is not mainly discovered by scientists working by
themselvesin the clinical environment of the laboratory .Instead ,Pragmatism claims that truth is
found by community of human beings working toghether in the real world.An educator who was
infuenced by Pragmatism would encourage learners in his/her class to carry out various
experiments to find out what what worked and what did not.According to philosophy of
Pragmatism.education is about finding out what works and what doesnt.
1.4 Fundamental Pedagogics
It is the relationship positions the student as being a child and the educator is the one guiding the
child through through this complicated world.The student does not have understanding of the world
and requires input to get through the dangers of the world and requires input to get through the
dangers of the world and therefore needs guidance.The student plays the role of a gaurdian by being
rational,able,in control and mature in guiding the student through understanding the
world.Fundametal Pedagogics is a relationship between transmitter and an acquirer.In South Africa
races where seperated because of Apartheid.The African races(coloured,black,indian and caucasion)
could only do self discovering through specific educators..This was fundamental to our
identity.Fundamental Pedagogics arose from above mentioned reasoning

Claims that any form of knowledge is the product of our community’s practices and interaction with
the world around the community.Consructivism takes seriously Hermeneutics’s claim that we are
dependant on interpretation ,except that Constructivism goes one step further and claims that the
world we experience is no more than a product of that interpretation.While Hermeneutics accepts
that there is a real world that needs interpreting.Constructivism claims there is no such thing as a
real world out there-all we human beings possess is a complex scheme of interpretation that only
exists in our minds.Therefore when we teach a learner ,we are giving them a series of complex
cognitive patterns

.Ethnic philosophy can be defined as the philosophy of Africa
2.It is distintive and consists of the religious and moral beliefs of the continent of Africa.
3.Given the vastness of this continent and the diversity of people of Africa.
4.This philosophy should not be viewed simplistically,It encompasses
the African people’s view of life.
Africa’s ability to criticise its own traditions.Essentially the philosophy of Africa looks at the whole
experience of human beings.
2.2Based on Richard Peters argument,what can Empiricism help you as a teacher to achieve in your
classroom activities?
Peters believe that knowledge comes primarily from sensory experience.It can help teachers to
achieve several goals in their classrooms Empiricism simply means expierences.
