Introduction
The main aim of this portfolio is to address key areas and important tenets of the
module (ORG4801). The essay shall focus on the case study of College of Business
Administration (CBA). The essay shall follow the numberings of the question paper.
The essay shall start by critically discussing the type of change and nature of change
that CBA adopted. Furthermore, the portfolio shall analyse the change agency and
advice the director of CBA on critical issues to consider when initiating change
process. Furthermore, the essay shall also identify and analyse the data collection
method that was used by the CBA director for information collection and then evaluate
the change initiative at CBA using McKinsey 7s model. It is important to understand
that communication is key in reducing resistance to change, in this sense, the essay
shall identify and explain 2 communication strategies that could be adopted by the
director. More so, motivation plays a key role in change processes, thus the essay
shall also deliberate on motivation that the director adopted in order to initiate change.
Lastly, the portfolio shall identify key factors that should have been considered in order
to select an intervention strategy as well as advice the director on how to make the
changes permanent.

Question 1 [20]
Question 1.1
According to the case study “the change process at CBA started unintentionally”.
Consider this statement and then identify and critically discuss the type of change that
took place at the organisation. Your discussion should be informed by relevant theory
and be supported by practical examples from the case study. (10)

In today's organisations, change is crucial in order to stay competitive and meet the
ever-evolving market demands. When it comes to market volatility, organisations must
decide between incremental or transformational change. Incremental change refers to
the implementation of small and gradual adjustments within an organisation to
enhance processes and products. However, according to Hayes (2018),
transformational change is characterised by a strong market shift that leads to
fundamental change.
