Vaselinetjie was bullied in school. She always lived with her grandparents and
she does not know where her mother is. The kids in her class bully her. She used
to be a top achiever but now she is struggling with her classes. She I currently 11
years old and she does not have any friends. She sits in a church full of coloured
people and it isolates her. The head of the School (Mnr. Botsman) says that
Vaselinetjie would be better off going to a boarding school as they would be able
to take better care of her there.
Vaselinetjie goes to the boarding school and when she wakes up in the morning,
there children going through her clothes. She met a girl named killer who took
her underarm roll on and another girl who set her father’s clothes on fire and is
not allowed to go back home. They went of a self reliant excursion and the cops
came after them after the two girls were bantering. She doesn’t say anything
when she is on the phone with her grandparents. Her grandma does knit work
and her grandpa is a greengrocer. Killer’s dad has children all over Witbank and
her mother is dead. Another police officer takes her back to the orphanage.
Collin tries to seduce Vaselinetjie and Texan comes to save her. They are going
to Durban for the holiday. Its her first time to Durban. She calls her grandparents
and she actually talks to them this time. Texan wants to be around her. Texan
says that once she is marked they will come back for her and that she should
leave with him tonight. She need to gather her things and make sure no one
knows. The bad guys kidnap both of them but they take them into different cars.
They take them to an unknown location and they hold Vaselinetjie down and
beat Texan to a pulp. Texan’s half brother kidnapped them. Once they are done
beating Texan, they leave the two of them at the unknown location and they
drive off.
Killer got adopted and they sent her back. Texan doesn’t want Vaselinetjie
saying anything about his mother or Juice. (There is an instance where he acts
out of violence). The principle says that she should tell Texan that her
grandparents aren’t white. When Vaselinetjie comes back from her swimming
pool date, she sees that Killer cuts herself. Killer is depressed because her
mother has slept outside with the dog because it’s the only place she can sleep
next to the dog. Then her stepdad shot the dog. Texan is mad at her because
she didn’t mention that her grandparents are coloured and he is afraid that if she
is ashamed of them, what will she think of him.
