NOTES
Name and discuss any five (5) advantages of Creative Arts
teaching.
a) Creative Arts teaching enhances language literacy- The reading
and writing skills of learners improve for example when learners are
given the opportunity to create and write their own scripts in drama.
b) It builds collaboration skills- Learners listen to other learners’ ideas
and they learn to work as an active member of a group to achieve
a common goal.
c) Creative Arts teaching enhances mathematical achievement –
Learners studying an art form such as music, achieve higher scores in
mathematics.
d) Creative Arts teaching promotes creative engagement in
communities - Learners get more involved in the community as
performers and creators or consumers of arts.
e) It develops learners’ self-esteem – Learners from disadvantaged
backgrounds gain more self-esteem as they gain confidence and a
sense of achievement when completing a product or performing
successfully.
Name and discuss the various creative art forms.
, Visual Arts
This form of art is optical in nature. Visual arts is nonverbal language that needs
to be learnt just as any spoken language needs to be learnt. Visual literacy is a
set of skills that helps a viewer interpret and construct meaning form visual
images. Learners need to learn specific skills of the visual arts such as
observation, expressing their ideas visually, self-discipline and perseverance.
When teachers facilitate young learners’ observations and conversations about
painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics and other media, they encourage
learners to develop an understanding of the communicative power of visual
arts. Visual arts includes fine art (2D), sculpture (3D), applied arts (furniture,
pottery) and crafts (cards, clay, glass). Examples of visual arts include drawings,
designs, photography, architecture, paintings and sculptures. Visual arts can be
found/seen on computers, cell phones, television screens, and in other media.
Dance
Dance is the arts of moving your body rhythmically to the beat of music.
Dance is use to express emotions, to perform for an audience, to interact
socially or to exercise. Dance can range from functional movements such as
ballet or folk dancing, to synchronized swimming, gymnastics, figure skating and
martial arts.
Drama
Drama is the art of performing a story or sequence of events (emotional, sad
or funny) written as dialogue and performing it for an audience. Drama can
be presented on a stage, on the radio or on TV in combination with other art
forms.
Music
Music is the art of arranging sounds to communicate moods, thoughts,
emotions, impressions, religious ideas or political concepts. The sound
composition of music is pleasing to the listener and reflects a combination of
harmony, melody, rhythm and timbre.

DISTINGUISH BETWEEN 2D AND 3D ART AND NAME THE DIFFERENT
TECHNIQUES RELATED TO EACH.
Two-dimensional (2D) is flat and has a length and a width but no
depth or height. Examples of 2D art includes paintings, drawings,
printmaking, photography, film, video, and mixed media.
Examples of how to create 2D art include the following:
a) Drawing It is the simplest and most efficient way to communicate
visual ideas. For centuries charcoal, chalk, graphite and
paper have been adequate tools to launch some of the most
intense 2D images in art.
b) Colouring Either you get black or white pictures or pictures filled
with colours as identified on the colour wheel.
c) Etching is when you first apply a protective wax-based coating
to a thin metal plate. The artist then scratches an image
