CHAPTER – THE SILK ROAD

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Nick Middleton is a physical geographer and supernumerary fellow of St. Anne’s
College, Oxford. He specialises in desertification. As a geographer he has travelled
to more than 50 countries.

CH in a Nutshell

"The Silk Road" is a travel story by Nick Middleton . It describes the author’s
adventurous journey to Mount Kailash, a holy mountain in Tibet. The journey starts
in Lhasa, Tibet's capital, and takes him through challenging, high-altitude roads.
Nick is accompanied by a Tibetan driver named Tsetan, who helps him navigate
through the dangerous, snow-covered terrain.

Along the way, Nick experiences harsh weather, thin air, and tough travel conditions
but is fascinated by the beauty of the mountains and Tibetan culture. He also meets
a local doctor who tells him about the importance of the pilgrimage to Mount
Kailash.

The journey reflects the challenges people face on such spiritual trips, but also their
determination and faith. The story combines elements of adventure, cultural
discovery, and the personal growth that comes from exploring new and difficult
places.
