Outline Lectures
Procedure during lectures:
• Lectures in person are ordinary lectures as pre-Covid, however accessible for max 75 students.
Lectures will be streamed and recorded as weblecture. Links are available under “content”
Brightspace.
• The online meetings (2) will be Q&A sessions with a brief introductory on the highlights of the
chapter. Here previous years’ weblectures are made available.
• To benefit from these meetings you are kindly urged to prepare each lecture by reading the
prescribed literature and in case of online-meetings to watch the corresponding weblecture.

Tutorials: Subscribe to a team:
• Enroll yourself in a group
– subscribe by Brightspace in teams of five students
– to communicate use always your team number (e.g. team 11)
– Small teams will be merged or single persons will be added to incomplete teams
Two assignments:
• Assignment 1: Analysing an annual report – Why this assignment? It provides a summary of how
the organization has performed and as such it reflects its strategy.
• Assignment 2: Conducting an analysis of an organisation’s strategizing and strategy – Why this
assignment? To help you understand what strategy is about and to get a better understanding of the
course content.

Analysing Annual Report Swinkels Family Brewers (participation obligatory)
– Analyse Swinkels Family Brewers’ annual report in order to determine whether there are potential
problems and opportunities and how this comes about in their strategy (consult weblecture
“Analysing Annual Report”) Financial figures are not put to question.

– Prepare presentation (10 slides max; presentation 15 min max; 5 min. discussion). Presentation and
1 page summary has to be included in the final document of the assignments.
– At the meeting of 18th of March some subgroups (at random) will be invited to present their
analysis. In case of no show the assignment will be considered as no-pass (given the current covid
guidelines this will be parallel zoom sessions; will be announced later)

Business Case (participation obligatory)
– Conduct an analysis of an organization’s strategy, related to the dimensions of strategy process,
content and context.
– The book’s approach is central; ook voor non-profit organisaties is dit relevant; bijv. Een ziekenhuis
hoeft geen winst te maken, maar ze zitten wel vast aan een budget. Wanneer het budget op is,
schuiven ze handelingen op naar het volgende jaar; hoe doen ze dit dan precies (strategisch)?
- Indien het jaarverslag nog niet beschikbaar is, kan je alsnog baseren op het verslag van

• Friday 11th of February 16.00 hours: Upload affiliation information of organization that will be
subject of your business case assignment (upload to corresponding assignment Brightspace)
• Wednesday 23rd of March 16.00 hours: Upload reports Annual report and Business Case
assignments. Include in appendix presentations, draft interview, affiliation interviewed person.
(upload to corresponding assignment Brightspace).
Reports missing names, student number and team number will be considered as not being
submitted and will not be reviewed!!!
Grading
• Final examination will be an closed book exam in cirrus on campus (60% of total grade)
= tentamen is in het Nederlands
• Business Case assignment (40% of total grade)
• Annual report assignment (Pass-No Pass)
• to succeed the average total grade for the course should be graded higher or equal to 5.5
• both the assignments (report) and the exam have to be graded higher or equal to 5.0 (but you have
to meet the first bullet-point criterion)
• one re-exam and one assignment revision will be offered during the same academic year.
• grade for assignments, if sufficient according criteria, remain valid next academic year.
