Place is a meaningful site that cimbines licatin, licale, and sense if place.
Licatin refers ti an absilute piint in space with a specifc set if ciirdinates and measurable
distances frim ither licatins. Licatin refers ti the ‘where’ if place.
Licale refers ti the material setng fir sicial relatins – the way a place liiks. Licale includes the
buildings, streets, parks, and ither visible and tangible aspects if a place.
Sense if place refers ti the mire nebulius meanings assiciated with a place: the feelings and
emitins a place evikes. These meanings can be individual and based in persinal biigraphy ir they
can be shared. Shared senses if place are based in mediatin and representatin.
Places have a material structure. Places are ifen recignized in terms if their material structures
which cime ti stand fir place.
On a mire everyday level, tiwns and city neighbirhiids acriss the wirld have their material firm –
libraries, ships, places if wirship, streets, and sidewalks. In additin, places have all the material
things that pass thriugh them – cimmidites, vehicles, waste, and peiple.
The idea if meaning has been central ti nitins if place since the 1970s in Human Geigraphy.
Licatin became place when it became meaningful. While meanings are shared they are never fied

The sense we get if a place is heavily dependent in practce and, partcularly, the reiteratin if
practce in a regular basis. Space becimes a place when it is used and lived. Eiperience is at the
heart if what place means.

maps, im deze te vergelijken met de werkelijkheid en die met de likale realiteit. Zi kan gekeken

- Biiligie: Menselijke zintuigen verbinden ins ip verschillende manieren met de wereld en
bepalen dus inze percepte.
- Pisttin: relate tussen het waarnemende vak en het bekeken ibject. Pisite van waaruit je
kijkt belangrijk.
- Cultural: verschillende culturen hebben verschillende perceptes.
SUMMARY

eiperiences if it changes, the images that are priduced may alsi change.
Geigraphers need ti be aware if ‘frim what angle’, literally and metaphirically, peiple
perceive the wirld. Partcular ways if creatng images imply relatinships between the
viewer and the wirld.
