, Section A: Question 1
1.1 Make a reasoned recommendation on the psychological assessment
instruments and assessment centre exercises that you would include in this
scenario. You should motivate at least two cognitive measures, two
personality measures and two behavioural exercises to be included.
It is very important to assess employees in an organisation to ensure that their skills
and abilities are used in the correct positions.
Two Cognitive Measures
With cognitive measurements we aim to assess a person’s abilities, skills, intelligence,
performance, aptitude and learning style.
The first measure that can be used is the LPCAT as it is a dynamic learning potential
test. This test is designed to assess the future learning potential of a candidate by
using a range of ability tests.
Another cognitive measure that can be used is the cognitive process profile (CPP), as
it is designed to measure a person thinking styles.
With these cognitive measures one can assess an employee’s current abilities in a
working role, as well as how they can learn and develop their abilities in the future.
Two Personality measures
Here we want to identify a person’s traits, values, interests, as well as intra and
interpersonal preferences.
The 16 Personality Factor Questionnaire (16PF) can be used to describe and predict
a person’s behaviour in different situations. This test is focuses on 5 global factors,
namely: Extraversion, Tough-mindedness, Anxiety, Self-control and Independence.
Another personality measure that can be used is the Occupational Personality
Questionnaire (OPQ), which measures 32 work-related personality characteristics that
a person can show. There are mainly three broad domains that are tested, which are
a person’s relationships with people, thinking style, feelings and emotions.
Both of these personality measures can be used to predict how a person will fit into a
work role and their behaviour in the working environment.
