Manage Discussion Entry
Professor & Class –
For the first part of the question, my current role is as an hourly worker.
1. What role should line managers play in the daily operation of managing their staff?
Line managers are to me the most critical level of management for a company. This
level of management supervises the front-line, or lowest level of employees. The
role commonly dictated by upper management is more of a supervisory approach
(making sure that daily quotas are met), but I think to be successful the role has and
should evolve into more of a leader-type approach – where encouragement and
motivation are the main factors to assist employees in meeting their daily
requirements.
2. What role should HR play?
HR’s role is to create, document and disseminate to all employees’ expectations that
explain the company’s policies and procedures. Additionally, HR should
communicate to all employees the options available (including anonymous,
confidential avenues) to discuss issues or questions employees may have
concerning these policies or
3. How should both interact with each other?
From the HR perspective, it is important to communicate to the line managers
periodic reviews of the company’s policies and guidelines as it relates to conduct
(i.e. administrative actions). From the line manager’s perspective – they need to
make sure that any administrative action is reviewed first with HR for compliance
before taking action, and to use HR as a sounding board for advice and direction.
4. Who should be most accountable for the successful practice of the above and why?
The Line manager should be the person held most accountable – they are the face
of management and has the most direct impact on the bottom line (the daily
operation of the company.
5. What role should the HR Director have on the Senior Management Team?
Using the metaphor “seat at the table”, the HR Director should be involved with all
decisions made by the Senior Management Team – if for any reason to ensure that
compliance with all regulations are met and no conflicts of interest would be
encountered.
6. To whom should the HR Director report? To the President or to a Board of Directors
Committee? Why?
, I would choose the Board of Directors (BOD) over the President. The BOD is
ultimately responsible to the shareholders of the company, and they have ultimate
authority. The HR Director should certainly communicate with the President – but
should directly report to the BOD.
7. Choose one metric which is used to evaluate employees and discuss in which industries,
employment or circumstances would this be the most and least effective.
I will choose the metric of efficiency. Efficiency is important not only for the company
perspective of producing more goods or services, but for the employee in terms of
improving upon their effort in producing output.
Efficiency would be the most effective in for example a production assembly line
(automobile factory, personal computer factory, television factory). The more
products that could be more produced, the more the company could meet demand.
Efficiency would be the least effective in fields such as medicine. I don’t believe
medical staff should be encouraged to operate on more patients on a daily quota
basis – this could seriously impact quality of the services rendered.

Manage Discussion Entry
Hi Class and Professor, My current position is hourly worker.
1. What role should line managers play in the daily operation of managing
their staff?
A line manager oversees other employees and operations of a business while
reporting to a higher-ranking manager, The line or direct manager plays an important
role in the operation of many businesses, supervising and managing workers on a
daily basis and acting as a liaison between employees and upper management.
Some of these include : Recruiting and hiring talent to fill team positions, Providing
training and support to new hires, Cross-training employees to ensure job rotation
and minimize assignment coverage gaps, Identifying the need for corrective actions,
Ensuring quality standards for all processes and more.
2. What role should HR play?
It may be an old saying, but it remains as true as ever: the most important asset
belonging to any business is its people. Indeed, in this post-industrial age, human
capital has never been more valuable. I think that's what HR should be doing,
, keeping that spirit on all the time, great communication, employee empowerment,
training, benefits and more.
3. How should both interact with each other?
It should be straight forward and open communication, I have seen were they don't
go hand in hand, but the manager and their HR team should go hand in hand to
empower the employee, which can bring the revenue to the company.
4. Who should be most accountable for the successful practice of the above
and why?
Accountability doesn't happen just by chance, it has to be implemented. I believe it
start with us, with each individual, but according to the question I think it should be
the Line manager, as they are the one whom the employee see every single day,
they are one with whom an employee make connection. So I think its them
accountable for the success of the team.
5. What role should the HR Director have on the Senior Management Team?
senior HR Manager responsibilities include overseeing the recruitment process,
designing company policies and setting objectives for the HR team. You will also
help shape our employer brand strategy. To be successful in this role, you should be
familiar with HR technology, including payroll systems and Applicant Tracking
Systems. they are also responsible for making sure that the management
understand the started of the employment, culture of the company, values and vision
of the company and has been passed correctly to their employees.
6. To whom should the HR Director report? To the President or to a Board of
Directors Committee? Why?
I think they should be reporting to President, imagine they are having a meeting of
the boards of directors. in the meeting the HR is not anymore the peer to the board
of directors they have their own function in the meeting, which may create different
view points for the president to take decision.
7. Choose one metric which is used to evaluate employees and discuss in
which industries, employment or circumstances would this be the most and
least effective.
Well I am kind of confused on this one as how to answer and which one could be
more effective. I have is Knowledge , efficiency.
