Speaker notes Section: Slide I (Human Capital Management Strategy Style in

Military Organizations)

The most prevalent capital human resource strategy style in military organizations is

authoritarian. This implies that the individual in a position of power often uses his or her

judgment to direct junior officers without other people’s input. Moreover, military leaders leave

little chance and flexibility for innovation and creativity at the workplace. This amounts to

micromanaging. Stănciulescu and Beldiman (2019) indicate that although the authoritarian style

of leadership is flawed, it often works well in military organizations because of their culture.

Often when junior officers are given freedom and choices in the military, they end up abusing

such privileges.

Moreover, many individuals in lower positions disdain ambiguity because of fear of

failure and disappointment. Junior officers feel that it is safe if they receive directives from their

seniors. Sometimes the authoritarian style of leadership is needed in the military. Stănciulescu

and Beldiman (2019) indicate that authoritarian leadership is preferred to other leadership styles

in events where time is critical, and immediate action is necessary. This is because it is swift and

effective. Hence, military leaders who try to adopt participative approaches usually run into

difficulties. However, it can stifle creativity and premature execution of decisions in case of

limited time and resources.
