One of the most debated topics of this generation is the use and impact that artificialintelligence (AI) has on society and the way in which we live our live. It is ever
changing, growing and evolving and is becoming a greater part of human beings
lives every single day. As more of it is being implemented into society and slowly
taking over there are many advantages and disadvantages that come with it.
There is no doubt that artificial intelligence has its advantages and a place in our
lives. One of the biggest advantages of using AI is the fact that it is always available
to us , no matter what time of the day it is or when we need it , it is always at the tips
of our fingers or in this case a touch of a button. Not only is it always available but
also extremely quick and because machines and technology is programmed it is very
seldom that you will see any form AI make a mistake.
Moreover any form of artificial intelligence can work much longer hours then what
any human being can making them more productive and adding more value to our
everyday lives. No matter how long they are running for they will still produce the
same quality of work and in larger quantities then what any person or body could.
Artificial intelligence is very effective in relieving information overload but it is also
very effective in providing people with new information. It is assumed that worldwide
data will grow 61 percent by the year 2025 because of artificial intelligence.
However, with all this advanced and new technology comes a cost and worldwide
spending on artificial intelligence systems have reached is 35.8 billion dollars as of
2020. Artificial intelligence is very expensive to implement because of the high
maintenance levels and all the technology that goes into it. Many business and
companies are unable to incorporate AI into their businesses because of the cost
and upkeep although they may prove effective. Approximately only 37 percent of
businesses world wide have implemented AI into their business. Another effect that
artificial intelligence had on businesses is the fact these machines are taking away
the jobs of many people , leaving them unemployed and desperate for work. This
could have a negative impact on a country as a whole as unemployment rates will
increase and therefore poverty rates will too.
Furthermore, as people are being replaced with machines , they are becoming too
dependent on them therefore making them lazy on something which may not always
be as reliable as people think. AI offers no unique thinking or creativity and with
human beings become more unproductive and dependent on them there is a risk
that when AI and technology fails , human beings will not know what to do or how to
take control of certain situations.
Therefore it is evident to see that with artificial intelligence becoming a greater part of
our lives , there are positives and negatives that come along with it. It is important for
people to weigh out the pros and cons so that we are able to use this type of
technology to the fullest without letting it effect society, the planet and people in a
negative way.
