,Dear Student

1. INTRODUCTION

We have compiled this glossary to help our students to understand the terms and conceptsthat areused in human resource management, training and
development, and labour relations. Ease of use is therefore essential.

The glossary consists ofthree parts: part A contains labour relations terms, part B training and development terms and part C human resource
management terms.

Each term appears in four languages in the first column. The first languageis English since your study guide and prescribed book are usually published
only in English. This is followed by the term in Afrikaans, Northern Sotho and Zulu. The terms are listed in alphabetical order according to the English
term. Some termsare repeated in different parts of the glossarybecause theyare often used very specifically in a subjectfield.

In the second, third, fourth and fifth columns,we give a definition of the term in the four languages. Our definitionsmay differ from the definitionsin your
prescribed book. Because this glossary is an additional resource to help you to understand the terms better, we advise you to read the different
definitions and to make sure that you understand the concepts or terms. If you can do this, this glossary will serve the purpose for which we have
compiled it.

If you have any comments on the glossary, please send them to Ms Maggie Holtzhausen at .

Yours sincerely

The DHRM Glossary Team
