Message: never give up on your dreams,through determination and hard work freedom was achieved.
Writer: MTSHALI-South African poet who writes about the devastating effects of life under apartheid.When he
wrote the poem he was arrested and spent several months in prison because he was a suspect of a
robbery.

1) Metaphor “Handcuffs” - for not being free, for living through injustice and prejudice.

TYPOGRAPHY: There is nothing he can do,he has no freedom and will have to grin and endure.
Line 16 – 19 :
16) “ethereal cloud” - metaphor: dream of freedom which will be like a huge banner blowing in the sky.
17) “blowing” - alliteration: the banner will be blowing wildly and will be clear for all to see.
18) Inverted commas – implies the direct words on the banner ( all people have the same dream of becoming
free )
18) “ brother” -metaphor : there is a feeeling of togetherness
