WEEKLY JOURNALS
DATE: 07/06/2021.
Week 1
My reflection as being a student teacher was very interesting, it gives me an opportunity to know to teach
learners independently. My mentor asked me to teach on this week, the lesson was interesting and it helps
me to build my confidence with regard of my teaching ability. This was a great opportunity to know the
students individually and more importantly to know me too.
Week 2
During the second week I gained a lot of confidence when comes to addressing the learners and giving
them directions on what to do in the classroom. I discovered that the duty of an educator is not only for
teaching there are many responsibilities for educators, outside classroom such as netball, soccer and
athletics. Furthermore, l learnt the important of multi-tasking and record upcoming duties in the diary.
,Week 3
During the third week of my practical’s as a student teacher I found myself gained a lot of confidence in
form of working together with educators and learners at large. I have learnt on how to control learners of
different behaviors guided by the school policies of learner’s code of conduct policies. I noticed that in
order to have a good relationship with parents of the learners you should frequently meeting with parents to
know the learners work and progress on their school work.
Week 4
On the fourth week of practical teaching career I discovered most challenging about teaching career which
is the involvement of educator’s parents on their kids. I discovered that they are learners that are coming
from deprived backgrounds were they cannot afford to participate in the school fundraising activities,
because they cannot money for affiliation. Some learners they cannot come to school in proper uniforms
and as an educator you tried by all means to help such student’s in your classroom, so that they cannot feel
different from other kids in the classroom. As an educator the best tool is to teacher Ubuntu of sharing
Week 5
On the final week I was working with the mentor on planning how to help learners with difficulties in learning
developing time table for environmental activities and cultural activities I realized that school environment of
too many activities, it is not only about teaching and learning but a place of responsibilities to also expose
learners to different activities to reach their full potential
2.2. Write a one page of your teaching philosophy statement using the guidelines from the book.
My teaching philosophy
From my own perspective , I believe that education extends far beyond the classroom and involves many
people than learners and educators. The interaction between a learner and educator is important because
its helps students to integrate new concept and make connections to existing knowledge. Students should
be able to have choices and let their curiosity direct their learning and need the opportunity to practice skills
in a safe environment. As an educator you need to know that children are unique and must have a
stimulating educational environment where they can grow physically, mentally, emotionally and socially.
My role as a teacher will be to assist each child in developing their own potential and learning styles. I will
present a curriculum that incorporate each different learning style. As a teacher be open minded and bring
positive attitude in the classroom always as learners learn from their adults or educators. Treat every child
in the classroom the same without discriminating other students because of their differences and always
, teach Ubuntu as it is one of the gift that we can pass on. I believe that as a teacher I found students are
very receptive to learning strategies which establish in a fundamental link between researches.
