1.1. Discuss the writing process. (20)
Planning and writing a text:
Once the learners know what the purpose is for them writing a text and they can start
to form a picture of that purpose then you can start the writing process with your
learners.
The topic:
After you have explained the topic to your learners give them time to analyze the
topic, this is a chance for them to get their creative juices flowing. Explore and
discuss different scenarios to a topic and really steer them towards thinking outside
the box.
Three techniques for teachers to teach the learners to use on how to analyze and
explore a topic is the following:
1. Brainstorming:
When you brainstorm, you think deeply about the topic you will be covering in your
writing and let your mind follow any and every lead it comes across. Write down
every idea you have while you brainstorm, even if it is only tangentially related to
your topic. The goal here is not to create a coherent piece of writing—it is to clear a
path for your writing.
2. Free/Unstructured Writing:
This technique works very well when trying to get your ideas flowing. This type of
writing is basically the practice of writing down all your thoughts without stopping,
and without regard for spelling, grammar, or any of the usual rules for writing.
3. Interviews:
Explain to learners that asking questions about the topic to their peers can lead to
some pretty interesting answers and this might help them to gain a different
perspective of the topic, or this can give them a few ideas on what they want to write
about.
