Syllabus Type: Topic based and Skills based

Course Aims:
By the end of the course, the student will be better able to…
Improve his conversational skills in listening and speaking. He will also be improving his
pronunciation and be taught the correct pronunciation to use in his everyday use of the L2
language in regards to work and conversations with friends with English as their L1 language.

He will be better able to understand L1 friends and colleagues speaking at a average pace and be
able to communicate on the same pace.

Course Rationale: (700 – 1000 words)

I have chosen these syllabus types(skills and topic) because of the following two reasons.

1. The Skills based syllabus will equip the student with the necessary skills to reach his
goal of improving in reading, speaking, listening, grammar and pronunciation in order to
improve his English for work and everyday conversations with friends to progress in his
career but also make new friends in a foreign country or in Spain. These skills are the skills
that the student have indicated in his interview and I thought it well to focus on all the
skills mentioned including writing which the student feels is one of his biggest strengths in
order to teach him the right word order of English. In this syllabus, reading, writing,
speaking, listening, grammar and pronunciation will be included in the lessons.

2. I have also chosen to use the topic based syllabus because the student has indicated
some topics of interest, but we are not limited to these topics. The topics indicated by the
student however is quite a variety and this gives us some idea of what would keep the
student’s interest during the lessons.

I have chosen the topics covered because the student shows interest in these topics and it
will greatly assist him in his career as well as his personal life in his everyday use of English
as his L2. These topics also has a wide variety of fields and it will be useful to the student.

I have chosen the following skills for the following reasons:

1. Speaking and pronunciation: The student has marked this skill as number 1 and 2 and
this means conversation in English is the most important to him. Teaching the student to
speak and using the correct pronunciation in English will help in his career and having
conversations with his friends. In the interview he also struggled with a few words in
