70 marks
Duration: 3 hours
This paper consists of 15 pages.
Instructions:
(1) Submit your answers as a single document, as a PDF document. It is preferable for you to

submission. However, if this is not possible, you may also write your answers down and scan
them to a PDF file. Please write legibly.
(2) Start with a cover page, stating the module code (MNP3701) and your student number (see
appendix A).
(3) This should be followed by your answers to the questions. Note that the ALL the questions
are compulsory. There are no elective questions.
(4) Make sure that each question and sub-question is clearly numbered.
(5) Please follow the instructions, as set out in this assessment. You need to answer the questions
in your own words. Plagiarism will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action, if
detected (see appendix C).
(6) Please ensure that you submit the declaration of honesty (see appendix B).
(7) Please ensure that your PDF document is NOT encrypted to a “secured” mode and that it is

marked. Scanned copies that are up-side down will also not be marked.
(8) Submit your answers, in one PDF document, by using the Assessment Info option on
myUnisa. Detailed instructions are provided in Tutorial letter MNP3701/2020/1/2020.
(9) Please note, it is important that you submit your cover page, the declaration and your
answers all as one PDF document, because if you upload them separately, the system will
only accept the last PDF document. (Your first document will be replaced with the second
document).

Dear Student
1 INTRODUCTION
For your safety, in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, Unisa's management has decided that the
May/June/July 2020 examination will be non-venue-based (i.e. online).
This document contains all the information you need to complete this examination, which should
be presented as a portfolio. Please carefully follow the instructions to complete and submit the
portfolio.
2 DUE DATE FOR THIS PORTFOLIO
This examination is to be written on 10 July 2020, starting at 11:30 and finishing at 14:30, South
African Standard Time. Please note that it is 3-hour paper.
Note to students studying overseas: You have to start at 11:30 (South African Standard Time)
and complete at 14:30 (South African Standard Time). No late assessments will be accepted.
3 INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDELINES
This assessment consists of three sections.
Section A (5 marks) is compulsory and consists of five (5) multiple-choice questions, which
count one (1) mark each. No negative marking will be applied.
Section B (20 marks) is compulsory and consists of essay-type and application questions,
which are based on the case study titled “Department of Health – Supplier concern”.
Section C (40 marks) is also compulsory. For this section, you need to write a report based
on the case study titled “Walmart competitive strategies”.
Five (5) marks will be allocated for the presentation of your portfolio (cover page, table of
contents, neatness, structure, paragraphs, headings, referencing and reference list).
The overall mark allocation for the portfolio is therefore 70 marks.
Follow the steps below to ensure that you fulfil all the requirements for this assessment:
1. Complete the cover page by filling in your details (see appendix A).
(You can also find the cover page and declaration as an announcement, titled
“Declaration of own work and cover page” (in MS Word format), under the
Announcements tab, on myUnisa.) Your answers should come after the cover page
and the declaration. Please note: Students who do not have a computer can create a
cover page, as long as it includes the information as set out in appendix A
