HRM3704 ASSIGNMENT
(TWO) YEAR 2022
(SEMESTER 1)
, QUESTION 1
1.1. Evaluate the dilemma for the HR manager by using the following
ethical principles: utilitarianism, Kant’s categorical imperative, rights,
justice, virtue ethics and African moral philosophy.
Utilitarianism theory is similar in that it measures the amount of good, such as how
many people were made happy or lives were saved versus the number of people whose
lives were made miserable or the number of lives lost (Dodd, Brewster & Holland,
2021:173). It is consequentialist in nature as it considers the outcomes of ethical
decisions
I would employ the Samelo, even though there are chances of me being dismissed
in the process, but my decision would probably benefit the rest of the workforce, it
should be noted that by all accounts, the CEO’s son Anga is a troublemaker, he
has been arrested for drunk driving twice and on the second occasion, he spent
some time in jail. He will probably harass other workers should he be employed. If
utilitarianism concept is about the measurement of the amount of good, such as
how many people were made happy, then my decision would be fit.
Kantian duty theory stresses the importance of an individual duty towards others, rather
than consequences (Dodd, Brewster & Holland, 2021:174). It challenges management to
treat every stakeholder with respect and integrity; it is about human rights and justice for
individuals.
Employing the son’s CEO will not break the universal law, the universal law in this
case may be to obey the CEO of which is the superior.
