1. What is the purpose of life orientation?
The purpose is to help learners achieve their full physical, intellectual,
personal, emotional and social potential. This is done by learning life skills.
2. I have a child who is in Grade 9. He has no clue about what he wants to do after
he finishes school. Guidance is no longer offered in the school. How will my child be
helped to have some direction?
Students will be exposed to the world of work and the rapid changes taking
place . They will be able to make informed choices when it comes to their
university studies and career choices.


3. My child is hard of hearing. Is the school able to cater for his needs?
Yes the department of education makes provision for all leaners as a
constitutional right. The National Curriculum Statement Grades R-12 serves
the purposes of equipping learners, irrespective of their socio-economic
background, race, gender, physical ability.
4. How much of time is given to Life Orientation in the senior phase?
Two hours per week.
5. How are the students assessed in Life Orientation in Grade 7 to 9?
learners are expected to complete four tasks per grade.
Each formal assessment task must be 100 marks per term, which will consist
of 70 marks for written work and 30 marks for Physical Education. The forms
of assessment used should be age and developmental level appropriate.
6. What is the difference between informal and formal assessment?
Informal or daily assessment is a daily monitoring of learners’ progress. Such
as a short class test, a discussion, a practical demonstration, a mind map,
debate, role-play, an interview, design and make, short homework task,
worksheets.
Formal assessments are exams that are marked and recorded for certification
purposes.
7. What will my child who is Grade 8 learn about constitutional rights and
responsibilities?
They will learn about Nation building, human rights violations gender equity
cultural.
