THE COURSE PLAN

Name of the Teacher Name of the Student Level of the student
Alberto Mofo Minguef Intermediate

Syllabus Type:
Topic-Based Syllabus

Course Aims:
By the end of the course, the student will be better able to…
Pronounce words clearly, feeling confident in listening and speak English more fluently.

, Course Rationale: (700 – 1000 words)

Here you need to include:

 why you have chosen this syllabus type
 why you have chosen the topic(s) covered
 why you have chosen this target language/skill
 the rationale behind the structure of the course, e.g. why is it in this order?
 how the course will meet the learner’s needs

Why you have chosen this syllabus type:

I chose to use a Topic - Based Syllabus for the student as per student’s analysis the student
chose certain topics which will intrigue him while learning English to keep him motivated.
As the student’s main aim is to gain speaking and listening English skills with topics as per
his own choice, I think Topic - Based Syllabus is a great choice as the Topic - Based Syllabus
is centred around different themes, which form a basis for vocabulary, functions and skill
practice.

Why you have chosen the topic(s) covered:

As per student’s analysis in his questionnaire and video interview, the student advised he
want to learn English to improve his English that he can get a job in a English speaking
country, hence I used the topic of a job interview for Industrial Engineer, that the student can
get familiar with types of question asked and answers to them in English and also that he can
pick up the type vocabulary used in a interview.
The rest of topics chosen was due to the student’s own choice when student’s profile was
captured with the questionnaire and video interview, I chose the authentic material using the
topics as the student might enjoy them.
The topics being used will also help the student feel relaxed and comfortable with the lessons
as have been seen on the video interview the student is shy and feel uncomfortable when
making a error in pronunciation, topics related to student’s like will make student more
engaging in class as one on one session can cause stress on a student as all focus is only on
them.

Why you have chosen this target language/skill:

Target language has been chosen as student prefer using Technical Terms which he can relate
to when it comes to his career as an Industrial Engineer. Skills being gained in this course is
the student’s own needs basis to improve his English that he can pronounce English words
more fluently especially when he will go for job interviews in a English speaking country or
when having casual conversation with his friends or future colleagues and be able to listen to
gist or specific information when needing to listen to English conversation. Listening to gist
or specific information skill will be a very useful tool for the student especially when the
student go for interviews to start his career in a English speaking country as it will help
answer the questions being asked.

The rationale behind the structure of the course, e.g. why is it in this order?
