, Malelane Community

Malelane is a small town in Mpumalanga close to the Kruger National Park. This town is
only 43 km from Mozambique border and the Swaziland border at Matsamo is also 43
km away [https://www.places.co.za, accessed on 20 .05. 2021]. It is linked with
Swaziland by two provincial roads, and with Mozambique by a railway line and the main
national road (N4) which forms part of the Maputo Corridor (Nsovo Environmental
Consulting, 2020, p 56). However, the town is located within the Nkomazi Local
Municipality which is a category B municipality with a total area 4787km2 within the
Ehlanzeni District Municipality. This municipal was previously part of the Bantustans or
Homelands established through the Bantu SelfGovernment Act, Act 46 of 1959 (The
Black Homeland Citizenship Act of 197), highlighted by Nkosini in his research (2016:7).
Thus, geographical co-ordination of Malelane is between coordinates of latitudes
2528’25.880’’ S and longitudes 3131’0.120’’ E. The agricultural activities mainly practice
in areas closer this town are sugar plantation, which are milled at the TSB sugar mill
nearby the plantation, this is dominating in this region but there are also many farms
producing subtropical fruit and winter vegetables. Thus, act as the hub of sugar –
growing industry in the Lowed it has also a shopping mall with many national brands.
