Mossen zijn de meest eenvoudige, minst geëvolueerde landplanten
Klein, want geen geleidingsweefsel (xyleem en floëem) en houtachtige structuren
Leven meestal op vochtige plaatsen, sommige ook in woestijnen
vocht nodig, want voortplanting gebeurt door geflagelleerde sporen
Probleem op land = vochtverlies moet tegengegaan worden
2 aanpassingen: - hebben van een cuticula (=waslaagje)
- Ontwikkeling van gameten in gametangiën (antheridia en archegonia)

2. Relatie tussen Bryophyta en andere groepen
Overeenkomsten met Charophyta:
- Vorming van phragmoplast tijdens mitose

- Zygoten beschermt binnen ouderlijk thallus
Verschillen met Charophyta:
