SMK is a primary school which offer education of various primary subjects. In my quest
to gather detailed information on factors that affect the learning process and student
performance I had to spent the whole schooling day with grade 4 learners and partake
with them in their learning schedule and their learning activities. Various teachers
attended to these group of grade 4 learners according to the time table of their
subject /academic activity. These teachers use various teaching methods/ techniques
suitable for their subjects and the conditions of the learners they are teaching.
However some of the educators strategies proved to be more effective than others.
This was indicated by the different responses of the learners to each and every method
which the teachers executed during the learning period as well as students performance
to the exercises they were given at the end of each learning period. Students reacted
differently to the teachers and their subjects.
The reactions of the student depended mainly on the methods used by the teachers in
executing their duties during their lesson delivery. Those who used the approach of
engaging students to participate during the lesson proved to be very effective in
delivering the lessons.
After each lesson I had to contact a simple survey on that group of students to find out
about how they felt about the lesson, whether they enjoyed the procession and gather
information on the factors which aroused their interests and disinterest in each and
every lesson.
In my short surveys, I found out that there are various factors which affect the learning
process and student engagement during the lesson. Some of the factors include, the
educators approach, availability of reading material, subject in discussion, teacher and
student interaction, student to student interaction, classroom conditions, classroom
population and lesson time frame.
Learning success is influenced by several factors, which are classified into internal and
external factors. Internal factors are factors that exist within the individual who is
learning including physical and psychological factors and external factors are factors
