, What motivates people to do volunteer work ?
Abstract
Introduction : Why do people do volunteer work ?
“Volunteering allows you to connect to your community and make it a better place. ...
And volunteering is a two-way street: It can benefit you and your family as much as
the cause you choose to help. Dedicating your time as a volunteer helps
you make new friends, expand your network, and boost your social skills”
https://www.helpguide.org/articles/healthy-living/volunteering-and-its-surprising-benefits.htm
The study was done to understand the reason and motivation behind why certain
individuals do volunteer work. I also had to determain the challenges such volunteers
will face in the completing and planning of their work.
Volunteerism can be described and defined as “contributing your time, talents and hard
work for social, political, charitable and any worthwhile purposes. In most cases this is
done without any compensation and is free” https://www.researchgate.net/publication
There is a huge effert all over the world by groups of volunteers to donate their effort,
time and in many cases money to non-profit organisations and the causes their
represent. These efforts aids them in reaching their goals through the commitment of
these group of individuals Yeung,A.B. (2004).
The understanding of why people from every walk of society become volunteers will aid
these organisations by keeping the volunteers satisfied and getting more people to
become volunteers. It became clear after conducting the interviews and doing the
analysis that there were three factors that could be identified as why people do
volunteer work. These were Personal reasons , External reasons and personal rewards.
The results also indicated that the reasons were both Intrinsic (From within) and
Extrinsic (External reasons).
