Assignment 2

Psychological Questionnaire

1. Interview scenario is based on Victor Frankl’s theories.
Introduction: By using the existential theory of Viktor Franki and Alfred Adler’s theory of Aggression
drive we will be looking at schoolchildren’s behaviour when their needs are not met, and the reaction it
might provoke.

Interview Scenario :

There is a increased tendency of aggression in schools that we as teachers must combat from turning
violent.
Violence at School and the Well-Being of Teachers
Front. Psychol., 07 August 2019 | https://doi.org/10.3389/fpsyg.2019.01807
School violence is a global problem. “ Each year 250million children around the world are affected by
school violence” (Unesco,2017). A primary school in the area contacted my business for help as they are
afraid that the students and situation at the school are going to get violent.

No school can function under a state of violence, and the school would therefore want to try to get it
under control before it gets out of hand.

The deputy principal of the school is in charge of dissiplne at the school and is asking my business to
formulate 10 interview questions that the school can use to evaluate the learners personalities to
ascertain which learners will be more prone to aggression.

The school would therefore be able to identify the students showing a tendency towards aggression.
The parents can then be informed accordingly and asked for permission to intervene (counselling)
before any aggression turns violent.

These questionares will be given out during enrollment at the school and parents will be informed about
the learners result before enrolling at the school.

What is violent behaviour ? It can be classified as any type of behaviour by a learner that may
threaten, harm or injure another learner at school. Factors that play a role in the violent behaviour of
children can be related to age, gender, low self-esteem, feelings of hopelessness. This fits in well with
Victor Frankl’s existential theory.

, What is the relevance of the existential theory ?
“Viktor Frankl’s extential theory raises that we have the freedom to act responsible and not live like
animals, in other words the freedom to be responsible. (Meyer,et al.,2008 pg. 438). We have free will
and can choose our behavior and cannot blame our behaviour on conditions and drives.
Lack of meaning in schools may lead to a feeling of hopelessness and despair, and this might lead to
aggression amongst learners.

Proposed Interview Questions:
Question 1 .
Please indicate which of the following situations makes you happy at school.
1 Being highly dislike and 5 being high like.

Situation 1 2 3 4 5
I have friends
I have eaten and are not hungry.
My homework is done
I have neat clothes to wear
I am not bullied

Justification of the question :
Here we look at the role having meaning in life and being happy might play in the manifestation of later
aggression. The answers to the questions will vary from child to child. Frankl’s theory indicated that
humans still have the choice of how they want to react to adversities in live. But helping learners
understand the role the school environment plays will help the school to avert feelings of “emptiness,
hopelessness and despair.
Question 2 .
If you are struggling with a task, assignment or exam that is given to you as learner what will you do ?
Pick one of the following options (either 1 or 2)

1. I would just give up because I can not complete the task.
2. I would search until I find a solution to the problem.
Justification of the question :
According to Victor Frankl, we as humans have the ability to “self-transcendence”. This means that we
have the freedom to rise above our adverse conditions. With this question hope to achieve the
realization that it is possible to search for solutions that will not include aggression at school.

Question 3 .
Sport at school plays an important role in teaching moral lessons at school. If you do not make the team,
what do you do ?

1. Give up and get cross.
2. Work harder until you make the team.
